I Just Listened to Dave Smith—and Nearly Fell Out of My Chair
“What an impotent leader”: Trump faces backlash from the libertarian right
I wasn’t expecting this. I was listening to the latest episode of Breaking Points, and there was Dave Smith—comedian, top libertarian podcaster, regular on Joe Rogan—absolutely torching Donald Trump.
I mean scorched earth.
Smith, who supported Trump in 2024, is now calling for his impeachment and removal over Trump’s handling of Iran. His anger is deep, personal, and raw. At one point, he compared Trump’s latest call for negotiations with Iran to FDR negotiating with the Japanese right after Pearl Harbor. It’s that blunt.
“What an impotent leader… He should be impeached and removed.”
That’s not coming from a liberal. That’s coming from the libertarian right—the part of the Trump coalition that includes straight white male voters who once loved his “anti-war” rhetoric and outsider brand.
And if Trump starts bleeding support from that bloc, his latest 38% approval rating could drop into truly historic lows.
This isn’t just a crack in the MAGA base. It’s a sign that Trump’s own coalition is beginning to fracture—and fast.
